Investigations into yesterday's deadly shooting at Bastian Mawatha in Pettah have been handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
One person was killed and another suffered injuries when two men on a motorbike opened fire at three persons while the victims were waiting at the private bus terminal at Bastian Mawatha. The deceased was a 30-year-old resident of Mahailuppallama while the injured is a resident of Galle. The third person escaped unhurt.
The victims were former soldiers who had once served in the Commando Regiment. After leaving the army, they had been employed as security officers at a club in Colombo. They were shot at while waiting for a bus after leaving the Hultsdorf Court complex after attending a court hearing.
A T-56 assault rifle has been used in the shooting, with at least 10 bullets being fired during the attack. Police have so far recorded statements from three persons in connection with the incident.
