Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees are continuing trade union action ignoring warnings on strict action over its employees who fail to report work.
The strike action is continuing despite declaring the service as essential.
Meanwhile, a court ruling has been made by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court prohibiting trade unionists employed by the CEB from accessing many significant Colombo places, such as the Presidential Secretariat.
The court order has been directed to the CEB trade union leader Ranjan Jayalal and others to refrain from entering the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Finance, the President’s House, and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
The Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union initiated a three-day protest campaign on January 2 against the Bill to restructure the CEB.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday declared the CEB as an essential service.
