CEB purchases electricity from pvt. power plants

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will purchase 270 mega watts of electricity from private power plants after Unit 3 of the Norochcholai power plant shut down yesterday (27).

Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekare said the Norchcholai power plant’s unit shut down was due to a steam leak and maintenance will require three to five days.

The Public Utilities Commission granted approval for the CEB to purchase from private power plants without extending the already imposed the daily 2.5 hour power cuts. Electricity will be purchased from Kelanitissa power station and Ace power station in Embilipitiya.
