Another four deaths were reported increasing the number of COVID-19 deaths to 343, the Government Information Department said.
A 75 year old male from Colombo 03, a 72 year old male from Bagawanthalawa, a 63 year old female from Mattakkuliya died from COVID pneumonia and complications from underlying health issues.
The death of Dr. Neville Fernando (89) has been reported as a death due to COVID pneumonia, aggravated kidney and heart ailments.
Meanwhile, 729 COVID positive cases were reported on Friday bringing the total number of cases from the second wave to 63, 849.
Over 200 persons were tested positive from several garment factories located in Mahiyanganaya and Minuwangoda leading to closures of the factories and PCR tests being conducted on factory workers.
Five students from the Faculty of Humanities of Kelaniya University have also been tested positive for Coronavirus.
The Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit said that on Friday 9,983 persons were given AstraZeneca's Covishield vaccine. A total of 156,310 persons have been vaccinated since January 29 this year.
