The Cabinet Ministers have approved President Gotabaya Rakjapaksa’s proposal to instruct legal draftsman to draft proposed amendments to amend the existing ordinances to control the election expenses of candidates and parties.
The former cabinet ministers too had discussed the need to control the expenses incurred by candidates or parties contesting for elections, they too had granted the approval on October 17.2017 to amend the ordinances in order to make provisions to minimize the illegal conduct of elections.
The parliamentary select committee was appointed to identify the reforms related to the structure and rules of parliamentary elections and submitted amendments. The amendments too have been consulted with the relevant parties and have reached an agreement.
