The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Mass Media and Information are planning to establish an island-wide radio education channel to address the educational disparities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, as it will take time to set up the necessary infrastructure, Cabinet yesterday approved a joint proposal submitted by the Minister of Education and Minister of Mass Media to utilize one of the channels belonging to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation that has island-wide coverage to broadcast educational programmes.
The channel will be used to broadcast education programmes while arrangements are made to set up the necessary infrastructure for the establishment of a radio channel dedicated to education.
