The Public can now report sellers who are stockpiling or charging more than the government-imposed Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for rice by calling up 1977 a hot-line introduced by Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA).
In the meantime, raids have been conducted by the CAA to locate such sellers.
A Senior CAA Official noted that neither Red or White Nadu Rice can be placed on the market for more than Rs. 220 per kilogram as per the government price limits on rice.
In addition, the MRP of Rs. 260 is fixed for Keeri Samba, Rs. 230 for Samba Rice and Rs. 210 for Red or White Raw Rice per kilogram.
Also, there have been claims of a Keeri Samba shortage in the local market where it has been noted to be out of stock for about a month in most supermarkets and Lanka Sathosa outlets across the island.
