Malcom Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo has requested that President Gotabaya Rajapaksha and his Government accept responsibility for the current situation and step down from their positions.
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith in a statement also said that Rajapaksas’ should step down from their positions since they have no moral right to continue in office anymore under these circumstances.
He further stated that the present Economic Crisis and the despondent situation are because of the President and the Government of Sri Lanka for the short-sighted and arbitrary decisions they continued to make for the past two and a half years.
Malcom Cardinal Ranjith said that he remained silent since the appointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister with the hopes of recovery yet the suffering of the people has become even worse and more painful which made him speak out on behalf of the people.
