Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said today that he expects President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to deliver on his promise to properly investigate the Eastern Sunday attacks and hopes for a positive signal by April.
"We are hopeful for a positive signal regarding the Easter Sunday attacks before its sixth anniversary in April. Otherwise we will have to take to the streets in protests,” he said while speaking at a Conference held at the Archbishop’s House in Colombo today.
The Cardinal said he came forward to bring this government to power to change the old system but it is not clear if they can do so.
“I urge them to fulfil the promises made,” he said, adding that there is no need to take any more time to make changes.
' You have been given enough power to bring the necessary laws and bring about changes to safeguard people’s freedom, media freedom and human rights. Take steps to build a truly democratic Sri Lanka so we don’t see a repetition of past crimes such as murders, disappearances, ethnic clashes etc.,” he said.
