The temperature felt on the human body is likely to increase up to a‘Caution level’ at some places for the second consecutive day tomorrow, the Meteorological Department warned.
The heat will be felt in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Southern and Eastern Provinces and in Rathnapura and Monaragala districts.
According to them, the caution level is reached when the heat index ranges between 39 -45.
When caution levels are reached people experience fatigue with prolonged exposure and activity, continued activity could cause heat cramps.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
They have requested employees engaged in work at Job sites to stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible, Check up on the elderly and the sick who are remaining indoors, Never leave children unattended inside vehicles , Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated, Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing in view of the heat condition.
