Cautionary level of heat condition to continue tomorrow: Met Dep

The Department of Meteorology issuing a fresh advisory said that cautionary level warm weather conditions would continue for tomorrow (Feb 19) as well.

The Department also issued a warm weather warning for today as well.

The Director General of the Department, Athula Karunanayake explained that heat weather conditions would fluctuate up and down but would remain until the month of April. 

The heat advisory issued for tomorrow read as Heat index, the temperature felt on the human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central, North-western, Western and Southern provinces and Rathnapura and Monaragala districts. 

When the temperature reaches a cautionary level, it might lead to fatigue with prolonged exposure And external activity could result in heat cramps.

The heat index forecast is calculated by using relative humidity maximum temperature and heat conditions that are felt on the body. ( therefore the heat index does not forecast maximum Temperature) The department had prepared the heat index by using global numerical weather prediction model data. 

The Metrology Department advised the general public to Stay hydrated at work sites, as well as instructed to have breaks in the shade as often as possible. 
 The Department also instructed people to check up on the elderly and sick indoors.

They warned people never to leave children unattended inside vehicles. Limit strenuous outdoor activities stay in at shaded area and stay hydrated.
