China is to donate another 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine this month to support Sri Lanka’s vaccination drive as the number of COVID-19 cases on the rise in the country.
The Chinese Embassy in Colombo announced in its official Twitter handle today that China would donate another consignment of Sinophram doses “to support Sri Lankan people fighting the current wave of COVID-19,”
With the recent announcement, the total Chinese tally aid of Sinopharm to Sri Lanka increased to 1.1 million doses.
This was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign of China to the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Beijing Dr Palitha Kohana today, the Embassy in Colombo said in a statement.
The embassy also said it will coordinate the air freighting of this 500,000 doses of vaccine to Sri Lanka as soon as they are received.
Further, the embassy said it has coordinated the procurement of 14 million doses of vaccine from Sinopharm by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation at a time supplies are extremely tight due to the exceptionally high local demand and from many other countries.
The first consignment of the 14 million doses of vaccine will be released by Sinopharm soon, the embassy said.
