Three million cigarettes were seized by the Customs after the stocks were found to be smuggled into the country on fake documents, officials said.
After a lengthy investigation conducted following an analysis of intelligence collected by the Port Control Division of the Sri Lanka Customs Department, a suspicious container imported from Dubai to Sri Lanka was seized.
The container was sent under a fake letter and it was noted in the bill of lading that the container contained gas stoves.
Further investigations are being carried out in this regard.
