A total of 122 students and three teachers have been quarantined and Grades 1 to 4 in one primary school in Hatton have been shut after two students from the same family tested positive for COVID-19.
A health official of the Hatton-Dikoya Urban Council said a nurse at the Dikoya Hospital had tested positive for COVID-19 and subsequent PCR tests had found that her two sons had also been infected.
Another son had tested negative for the virus following an antigen test, but as a precuation, the Grad 4 class he attended has also been closed down and the students quarantined.
The principal of the primary school said that Grades 2 and 4 at the school have been closed and the students quarantined, while students in Grades 1 and 3 have also been given a holiday till April 27 as a precaution.
The latest infections put the number of confirmed COVID-19 in Nuwara Eliya district at 1618. A total of 12 COVID deaths have been reported from the district so far.
