During the past 12 days 24,773 tourists have arrived in the country increasing the total tourist arrivals this year to 129,762, said Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga.
He said the majority of the tourists are from India, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Kazakhstan, the United States, France, Canada and the Maldives.
The Minister said heavy tourism promotional activities are presently taking place to attract tourists during the European winter season.
According to him, the tourism industry targets to reach 10 billion US dollars by year 2025 with over six million tourists expected.
