The Court of Appeal today dismissed the petition filed by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, who has been sentenced to four years in prison for contempt of court, seeking a writ order preventing the annulment of his parliamentary seat.
The writ petition was taken up before a bench consisting of Justice Arjuna Obeyesekere and Justice Mayadunne Corea today.
Dismissing the petition without further hearings, Justice Obeyesekere noted that there is no legal basis in the petition.
Earlier the Court of Appeal ordered the Secretary General of Parliament to take no further action regarding Mr Ramanayake's Parliamentary seat until it delivers its verdict regarding his seat.
Mr Ramanayake is currently serving a four-year sentence imposed by the Supreme Court for contempt of court.
