Two vessels carrying 120,000 MT of coal are being unloaded after the payment of 38 million US dollars, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said. He said with these two vessels the coal requirement before the monsoon deadline is fulfilled.
The majority of the country’s power generation now relies on coal power due to fuel crisis and low rainfall to hydro catchment areas.
Minister Wijesekara said a jet fuel cargo and a diesel cargo consignment are in the process of unloading as well.
