The Court case against the order on returning 15 illegally captured elephants out of 38 elephants to their captors will be taken up today (16) at the Colombo Magistrate Courts.
Environmentalists and environmental activists groups said that they have lodged a separate case at the Appeal Court to deactivate the August 19 gazette on Protection, Wellbeing and Regularisation of Registration of Tamed Elephants.
The released elephants were taken to government custody following a crackdown on elephant smuggling.
