The air quality in Colombo remains unhealthy for sensitive groups while air quality in other parts have improved to good and moderate levels.
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO)’s Director of Environmental Division, H.D.S Premasiri explained that overall the air quality has improved as there are no external factors such as the cyclonic condition contributing to the air quality.
However he explained that air quality in Colombo remains unhealthy as air pollutants from factories, exhaust from vehicles and power plants get released to the atmosphere.
According to the Dynamic Air Quality Map of the NBRO Colombo recorded 58.0 particulate matter making air condition Unhealthy for sensitive groups while Badulla, Dambulla, Kurunegala and Kandy Batticaloa recorded 30 to 43 particulate matter by 11.30 am.
Anuradhapura, Nallur, Mullativu and Nuwara Eliya recorded good air quality conditions, recording particulate matter levels below 25.
