Combined cycle power plant at Kalanithissa to shut down tonight
The Kalanithissa combined cycle power plant was set to be shut down on Saturday midnight as new supply of naphtha (fuel) had not arrived, the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union warned.
CEB spokesman and Deputy General Manager Andrew Nawamani confirmed that supplies had not arrived,
He said if stocks were not received by night they would be compelled to shut down the plan.
He said that the 4000Mt of Napatha received on last Monday allowed them to daily produce 165 Mw. He said that the there is enough Naptha left to produce power tonight.
Therefore the power plant would be disconnected from the grid after mid night as the power plant could not operate without fuel.
Mr Nawamani added that this too could contribute to the increase of power cuts, however they have to review situation and see if they need to increase the time limits of power cuts.
