The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has ruled against a planned demonstration by Teachers-Principal Trade Unions to refrain from causing any inconvenience to the public during a protest from Polduwa junction to Parliament entrance road, today (5).
Colombo Additional Magistrate K.P.S. Harshan issued the court order following a request made by the Police concerning potential public inconvenience.
The court order further clarified that peaceful protests and freedom of expression will not be prohibited.
Eight teacher-principal trade unionists, including Joseph Stalin the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU), Mahinda Jayasinghe General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union, and Sunil Premathilaka President of Principals’ Services Union have been named respondents in a court order.
