Over 125 cyclists are expected to take part in a cycle race on the central expressway between Meerigama to Kurunegala on January 14, the Ministry of Youth and Sports said.
Organised by the Ministries of Youth and Highways, over 30 sports clubs will have their contestants ready for the 80 kilometre race from Meerigama exchange to Yaggapitiya exchange and returning back to Meerigama.
The Ministry said the objective is to expose local cyclists to international cycling events on highways.
The opening ceremony of the Meerigama to Kurunegala section is to be held on January 15 with both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as guests.
