The number of COVID-19 patients detected in the country exceeded 1500 for the first time today, with a record 1531 patients being identified.
This is the third straight day that COVID-19 infections have exceeded 1000.
Meanwhile, health authorities identified a new COVID cluster for the first time today, naming it as the 'Aluth Avurudu' (New Year) cluster. A total of 1491 patients reported today were identified under this cluster.
