The Cabinet has decided to make the song "Danno Budunge Sri Dharmaskandha'' a national heritage.
The song is 120 years old, first included in the Sirisangabo dance composed by John de Silva in 1903. It was also used as a national anthem in festivals and celebrations before the current national anthem.
Accordingly, with the view of the constant influence of the song on the enjoyment and thought of the nation for over a century, the Cabinet has approved a proposal to declare the song as a national heritage.
The proposal was presented by the Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena as the Minister of Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
