The Ministry of Defence (MoD) advised those who own firearms for personal use or who have them on the property of private security companies to renew their permits before December 31, 2022.
According to the ministry, licenses would not be issued after December 31. The Ministry's official website now has the application forms for license renewals - www.defence.lk
According to Article 22 of the Firearms Ordinance, it is illegal to possess a firearm without a license that is up to date.
