A spokesman for the Colombo Fort railway station that the trains operating in the coastal line would be delayed due to derailment.
The Rajarata Rajina train which was traveling from Matara to Vavunia had derailed near the Fort railway station around 1.15pm.
The Department is currently carrying out efforts to get the train back on track. The railways said that the trains running in the coastal line had been delayed.
The spokesman also added that they are attempting to resum the coastal line operations by evening.
