The Delimitation Committee headed by Mahinda Deshapriya hand over its report today to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena today.
However, Mr Deshapriya told journalists that since the Committee has been given an extended period until the end of April another report consisting of more proposals will be submitted.
The Committee was appointed by the Prime Minister as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
Mr Deshapriya said that one of the key features in the report is the reduction of the Local Council members to be elected. He said the members to be elected will be less than 5000.
The other members in the five-member national committee for delimitation Mr. Jayalath R. V. Dissanayake, Mrs. W. M. M. R. Adikari, Mr. K. Thavalingam and Mr. I. A. Hameed.
The term of the Delimitation Committee ended in February, but was given an extension.
