The Disability Organizations Joint Front today called for an establishment of a National Commission to ensure the rights of thousands of persons with disabilities living in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Nihal Paranagama, the President of DOJF told a press conference that the only solution to protect the fundamental rights of the persons with disabilities is to set up a National Commission with the proposed 21st Amendment to the Constitution as no regime in Sri Lanka has considered as its responsibility within the relevant line ministries
Mr.Nihal added that an act was passed in 1996, a National Policy was formulated in 2003 but the people were not able to live with their rights they rightfully deserve. Therefore, The DOJF called on the political authorities and the political party Leaders to support this change.
The advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities(DJOF) believe that all those who are concerned with rights of citizens of this country will support this voice and raise upon by the disabled community for their strength and human commitment.
