A decision has been made to release domestic gas to the markets under strict conditions.
A decision was reached between the gas supplying companies and the Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Accordingly, the previously imported stocks will not be released to the markets and Ethyl Mercaptan, the required gas which enables the consumers to detect easily if there is a gas leak should be added to the cylinder keeping to proper standards.
Earlier, gas providers had reduced or stop using Ethyl Mercaptan in the gas cylinder. Ethyl Mercaptan is a colorless or yellowish liquid or a gas with a pungent, garlic- or skunk-like odour. It is used as an additive to odorless gases like butane, propane, and petroleum to give them a warning odour.
Accordingly, gas supplies to the market are to gradually return to normal from this week.
However, more gas related explosions were reported over the weekend.
