A 50 year old van driver who was transporting polling boxes and officials of a polling center in Eheliyagoda in Deraniyagala was arrested by the police after he was found to be driving under the influence of liquor, police said.
The Ruwanwella police said the van driver attached to a centre in kegalle distributing election centre was arrested following a complaint by the staff members.
Two officers had informed the Assistant Election commissioner about the conduct of the driver. Thereafter the driver and the vehicle were taken into custody.
The Assistant Election Commissioner had advised that the staff and the ballot boxes be transported via another vehicle.
