Media Minister Dullas Alhapperuma today defended the action by 10 constitutional parties of the Sri Lanka Podujana Preamuna (SLPP) who sought a lockdown due to the COVID-19 situation.
Minister Alhapperuma addressing the weekly post-cabinet news conference said that some of the leaders of the constituent parties had not been present at the final hours of the cabinet meeting where the steps due to be taken by the government due to COVID-19.
He said in any case there was no serious crisis within the party over the situation and that it was not unusual to have differences within alliances.
His comments came after SLPP General Secretary and MP Sagara Kariyawasam called President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to look into a letter signed by the 10 party leaders which included leaders of constituent parties including Ministers Udaya Gammanpila, Wimal Weerawansa and Vasudewa Nanayakkara.
