The Election Commission (EC) has stressed that all candidates contesting the upcoming 2024 parliamentary election must submit their assets and liabilities declarations.
Issuing a media release, Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that candidates from recognised political parties and independent groups must submit their assets and liabilities declarations along with their nomination papers to the Returning Officer. This is in line with provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023.
The requirement also applies to all candidates for National List MP positions. Such candidates must also submit their assets and liabilities to the Returning Officer along with their nomination papers.

The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
