A Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus heading from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya swerved off the road and fell into a precipice this morning (1) in Watawala injuring 18 people, Police said.
The accident occurred when the SLTB bus veered off the road whilst moving aside for another bus coming from the opposite direction, Watawala Police said.
About 100 passengers were reported to be in the bus.
The injured were admitted to Watawala District Hospital and five serously injured were shifted to the Nawalapitiya District Hospital.
