The proposed Electricity Sector Reforms Bill was presented to the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday (30) for review and approval, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said.
The proposed reforms will allow the private sphere to contribute to the energy sector and will enhance efficiency, transparency, and competition enabling the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to uncover its services provided, Minister Wijesekera mentioned in ‘X’, formally known as Twitter.
He further claimed that during the course of the previous ten months, the Bill was drafted with the assistance of legal and energy specialists from development bodies and business entities.
Additionally, the Energy Minister emphasized that the Attorney General (AG) certified the Bill last week after the Legal Draftsman’s Department integrated the suggested changes from the Attorney General’s Department.
Minister Wijesekera also said that the Bill will be gazetted and presented to the Parliament for approval after receiving the green light from the Cabinet of Ministers.
