Trade Unions in the electricity sector have decided to continue with their strike, after talks with officials representing the new entities under the restructuring plans of the former Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) failed.
Trade Union representatives claimed that as many as 8,000 breakdowns in the power sector remains unattended while the strike continues.
The discussions were held this afternoon, but the officials representing the new entities under the restructuring plan, said that they were unable to answer some of the issues raised by the unions and a meeting with the Minister of Energy needs to be arranged.
Of some 40 unions about 20 of them have been involved in the strike
Meanwhile people have been severely inconvenienced due to the power failures while usual sections which entertain complaints have been inactive.
A resident from Pasyala Champika Thushara said that the area has been without power since Monday afternoon and there has been no response from the officials.
