A six year old elephant calf sunken in mud was rescued by wild life officials and residents in Anuradhapura yesterday.
It was reported that four calves had fallen in mud holes in the Kekirawa Verunkulama lake.
As the calf had appeared to be weak, Anuradhapura Regional Veterinarian Chandana Jayasinghe and his team provided medical attention before rescuing the calf.

Wildlife officials suspect that the calf is an orphan of an elephant that had been shot in the area.
