The ‘Kap Situweema’ ceremony for the Kandy Esala Perahera will take place tomorrow (17) morning.
A Vidane (Service person of the Devale) prepares the milky tree that is to be cut for the "Kap" planting ceremony on August 17 at 6.13 a.m. at the four Devales.
The Vidane purifies the tree in the foreground holding incense and lighting of lamps throughout the night and day before the Kap is cut and conveyed to Kandy from Aluthnuwara Dedimunda Devale.
At the Sri Maha Vishnu Devale, the ' Kap ' (jak) plant would be again cut into four and distributed to the four Devales to be planted at dusk tomorrow.
The ritual is performed under the supervision of the Basnayake Nilame Mahendra Ratwatta who is the Basnayake Nilame of Aluthnuwara and Kandy Sri Maha Vishnu Devale.
