The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and his brother Riyad Bathiudeen this morning under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for aiding and abetting Easter Sunday attacks, police said.
Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that both were arrested over aiding and abetting the suicide bombers who orchestrated the easter Sunday attacks in 2019 in targetted hotels and churches in the country.
According to the police, CID had recorded direct evidence implicating the suspects. The CID officials have collected circumstantial evidence in addition to scientific evidence.
Further investigations are underway under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) section 48 of 1979, police said.
