The Bribery Commission has apprehended former Provincial Councillor and businessman Salochana Gamage, along with another businessman, in Pitakotte over a Rs. 9 million bribery case.
The arrests occurred while the suspects were allegedly accepting a bribe from a third businessman and followed a complaint filed by a resident of the Madiwela area in Kotte.
According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), the bribe was demanded to expedite compensation for land owned by a relative of the complainant. This land had been acquired by the Urban Development Authority.
Preliminary investigations disclosed that the suspects planned to use their influence to hasten the compensation process. Further investigations are underway.
