The Excise Department officers of Kegalle yesterday raided four large scale liquor brewing centers and two illicit liquor distribution centers operated at Warakapola, Dorawaka and Algama areas.
The Commissioner Excise (Legal enforcement) Kapila Kumarasinghe said that they were able to nab six individuals who brew illicit liquor and possessed 9,500ml of the illicit liquor.
The individuals were identified as persons between mid-thirties and late forties, they were also residents of Dorawaka ,Algama and Warakapola areas. He elaborated that the raid was conducted according to tip off made by general public.
Mr Kumarasinghe said that they were also took custody over the barrels and metal coils and equipment used for illicit liquor brewing. He said that the equipment used to brew liquor worth over Rs 500,000.
“All the suspects taken custody were released under the excise department bail, yet the departments have planned to take legal action against the individuals by filing a cases at Warakapola Magistrate Courts on March 01.2021and 08, 2021," he said.
