Heavy rains over 100 mm coupled with severe lightning can be expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Wayamba provinces and Galle, Matara and Badulla districts later today, the Meteorology Department said in a fresh weather advisory issued this afternoon.
The advisory also warned of temporary localized strong winds during thunderstorms and urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
The Director General of the Department, Athula Karunanayake told Times Online that they expect heavy thunder showers accompanied by severe lightning during the evening hours.
Mr Karunanayake added that other districts too would receive rains in the evening hours as well with the range of 50 to 75 millimeters.
