Several places in the Uva, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Eastern provinces will experience moderately heavy showers above 75mm, according to the Department of Meteorology.
A few spells of showers are due in the Southern province during the morning.
The Met. Department further predicts showers or thundershowers over most parts of the island during the day and night.
In the meantime, showers or thundershowers are on the cards at a few places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be southerly and will strike at 20-30 KMPH.
Wind speed may also advance into 40 KMPH intermittently in the marine areas off the coast widening from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai are expected to be toned down.
Moreover, strong gusts of wind and turbulent waters are also foreseen during thundershowers transiently.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
