A 52-year-old man was killed while his 20-year-old son suffered injuries after unidentified gunmen opened fire on them in Denpitiya, Weligama last night (15).
The victims had been traveling in a motorbike when two assailants, who were also on a motorbike, opened fire on them and fled.
The deceased 52-year-old man is a resident of Palena. His 20-year-old son is currently being treated for gunshot injuries at the Matara Hospital.
Police said the deceased had been in remand custody over a crime and had only recently been released on bail.
The body is currently lying at the Weligama, Walana Hospital and Weligama Police are conducting investigations to arrest the assailants.
