Mainly fair weather will persist around the island today (27) excluding Western, North-western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts where a few showers are expected to fall out, says the Department of Meteorology.
Several places in the Uva province along with Ampara and Batticaloa districts will experience showers or thundershowers during the evening or night.
Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, and North-central provinces and Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts are in all probability to witness moderately high winds of about 40 KMPH.
Showers or thundershowers will pass off in the off shore areas extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
The Met dept. further added that south-westerly winds of about 30-40 KMPH may advance into 50-60 KMPH intermittently in the marine areas off the coast widening from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai.
Although the rest of the sea areas around the island will remain moderate, the sea areas off the coast expanding from Hambantota to Pottuvil via Mannar and Kankesanturai will be periodically rough.
Strong gusts of wind and stormy seas are also foreseen during thundershowers transiently.
