A Filipino woman was detained by Sri Lanka Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Tuesday (21), along with 2 kilograms and 851 grams of cocaine, which is estimated to be valued over Rs. 200 million.
Upon entering the country from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia through Doha, Qatar, she was placed under arrest by the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs.
The arrested has been identified as a 47-year-old employed as an Assistant Accountant residing in the Philippines.
According to Customs Media Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda, three packages carrying cocaine were discovered hidden in her suitcase along with three additional packages containing wheat flour, chili powder, and turmeric powder.
The officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit made the arrest in response to foreign intelligence that they had received.
Additionally, it was discovered that the woman had previously sent packages containing cocaine to Malaysia and India under the guise of packages carrying spices.
Police Narcotic Bureau have received the apprehended female along with the cocaine stock and further investigations into the incident are currently being carried out by Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs.
