The Finance Ministry has approved a proposal for the public to purchase liquor online through supermarket chains.
Though the Finance Ministry has approved the proposal in principle, the process will only be implemented with the approval of the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19, Excise Department Spokesman Kapila Kumarasinghe stated.
Mr Kumarasinghe added that once the process is approved, the Excise Department hopes to allow supermarket chains with the necessary technical expertise to sell liquor to customers online, subject to certain conditions.
