At least 23 persons have been injured in a major fire that broke out at a clothing shop in Second Cross Street, Pettah.
Ten fire engines were deployed to control the fire.
Colombo Municipal Council and Sri Lanka Air Force fighters battled for more than two hours to fully controll the fire.
Eyewitnesses said that they managed to prevent the fire spreading into adjoining buildings.thereby preventing a major disaster.
At least two of those hospitalised were in a critical condition while a female employee had sustained serious burn injuries.
