A fire broke out last night (Feb 23) in a land adjacent to the place where the clinical waste was piled behind the Chilaw Hospital.
The fire was reportedly caused due to the large amount of plastic waste that has been stacked up in the land being highly inflammable.
Accordingly, the hospital employees and security personnel promptly came into action to prevent the spread of the fire. Residents say that if the fire was not controlled immediately, the hospital premises and the high-powered electrical wiring system would have been damaged.
The fire was extinguished by the Fire Department of Chilaw Municipal Council.
