More than 50 families have been displaced after their homes at Kajima Watte in Grandpass were destroyed in a major fire in the early hours of today.
Residents said that the fire spread very fast as most of the houses were closely located and built with planks.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa were among those who visited the residents and spoke to them.
Most said they were unable to save their personal belongings and valuable documents.
They urged the visiting politicians to provide them with relief, including steps to rebuild their homes.
