Five arrested over abduction and murder of individual in Seeduwa

News

Five suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the abduction and murder of a 26-year-old individual in Raddoluwa, Seeduwa.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the victim, a resident of Maggona, had been abducted from Seeduwa on February 8 while traveling in a van. He had been taken by several individuals who had arrived in a car. The victim's body was recovered from the Nikaweratiya, Kotawehera area on February 10.

Both the Seeduwa and Kotawehera police stations launched special investigations into the incident. Four males and a female were subsequently arrested over the incident.

DIG Rohana said the lengthy probe revealed that the victim had owned a building in Matara town, which he had rented out to the main suspect. A dispute had arisen between the victim and the main suspect over the building and the suspect had plotted to murder the victim.

Police said as part of the plot, the 22-year-old female suspect, a resident of Hakmana, Matara, had started relationship with the victim via Facebook. She had then invited him to a hotel in Seeduwa to meet her. While the victim had been on his way to the hotel, he had been abducted by the other suspects and subsequently murdered.

The female suspect has been remanded in custody while the four males are being questioned under detention orders. Seeduwa Police are investigating.
